jmol doesn't work with anything

I cannot get jmol to produce 3D graphs with FireFox or Chrome under either windows Vista or mintLinux12. In fact, I have from time to time accessed the sage math server at sagenb.org and jMOL never worked no matter waht my operating system or computer configuration. On Linux with FireFox, the JMOL applet is called up but crashed FireFox before any image can be displayed. With Chromium or FireFox under Windows Vista, I get a black pane and that is it. It has been years since I have actually seen a JMOL 3D graph on Sage Math and I am wondering why it should be such a difficult thing to accomplish? I have both a desktop computer and a laptop and neither will show JMOL. I have no idea what to do.

Any help would be appreciated

Well, I solved one mystery. JMOL is not compatible with the IceTea plugin on FireFox. Disabling the IceTea plugin will prevent JMOL from crashing the browser. on the other hand, all I get is a black pane which isnt helpful. Now on my 64bit ASUS laptop, I find that the CHROMIUM browser does show the JMOL applet, but will only show one JMOL 3D graph at a time. The other graphs all turn to black panes when a new one opens. I have no real idea why fireFox will not work with JMOL but CHROMIUM does. Chromium has the 23 version of the browser whereas FireFox has the 26 version. I am still trying to figure everything out. Hi! My laptop gave me the option to update a bunch of stuff on my Mintlinux (think "Ubuntu") installation including FireFox and I took it. Now JMOL works just fine! I guess you have to keep everything up to date. Case dismissed! No further problems. cheers, MathBear ^,..,^

My OS is openSuse 11.4 with Firefox 12.0 and IcedTea-Web Plugin 1.2 (suse-0.10.1-i386)

JMOL works fine since I updated IcedTea.

But I experienced a lot of trouble with other combinations of OS, firefox and IcedTea. (I never had problems, when using Windows.)

Just to add another data point, it works for me on Fedora 16 with google chrome 20 (google-chrome-beta-20.0.1132.21-139451.x86_64.rpm) and icedtea-1.2 (icedtea-web-1.2-1.fc16.x86_64.rpm). Though the whole java in a browser thing has been finky in the past, to say the least.

Well, I ran sagemath on my desktop computer after disbling the IceTea plugin and now jmol works perfectly just like it is sypposed to. The desktop is 32bit and the laptop, which still has issues is 64bit. I wonder if that has anything to do with it? Why should the laptop work partially (using Chromium) and not FireFox? both the laptop and the desktop are using the same version of Java plugin and the same version of Linux other than 32/64 bit. Hmmmmmmm.....

For those reporting issues with Firefox, please remember to disble the IceTea plugin and enable the Java plugin!
