Using PyDev (eclipse) and Sage (on Virtual Box) on Windows 7?

Hi there,

I am asking an old question (http://ask.sagemath.org/question/668/...) with a different flavour. I need to write a long sage project. I use Windows 7, Eclipse (pyDev) under Windows 7 for my python programming and I have sage 4.8 installed on Windows 7 via a VM Virtual Box. Also, I know very little of Linux.

I wonder if it is possible to write a sage project on Eclipse (pyDev) under Windows 7 using the sage interpreter (and commands, etc). To begin with, I can't even find the location where the sage 4.8 folder is on my laptop, so I can't follow any of the instructions available on the web.

I would appreciate any help in this regard as I have spent a lot of time googling an asnwer.

You probably need to mount the virtual disk on Windows. Maybe this forum post helps.

Then, going by the developer instructions in the Sage wiki, I would presume (I haven't tried myself) that you can get access to the sage sources by going to the <drive letter>:\\home\sage\sage\devel\sage\sage\ directory. Essentially, <drive letter>:\\home\sage\sage should be the root folder of the Sage installation.

EDIT: Just make sure you/Windows doesn't try to write to the mounted directory.

The location of the sage files, are in the virtual hard drive of the Virtual Machine. You can look at the preferences of your "virtualbox" in your virtualbox VM manager to find out where that hard drive lives, but knowing that may be of no help. If you are running Windows 7 use the handy dandy search feature to locate the "sage" file inside the Windows 7 VM. Hope that points you in the right direction.

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, Virtual Box VM seems to manage everything like a black box. I can see files Sage-4.8.vbox and Sage-4.8-disk1.vmdk but not the file sage.exe. I imagine it is embedded in the latter.
