WinXP Pro SP3 system.

I launch the VMPlayer v3.0 and it opens to a window with the SAGE VM.
I launch SAGE VM and it prompts for NOTEBOOK, OFF or MANAGE.
I type NOTEBOOK and it initializes and prompts to open Firefox to 192.168.172.128.
I launch Firefox to that address and can not connect to the local SAGE server.
I have disabled the Firewall and Virus Scanner but still get the same message.
I have performed an ifconfig and get:

eth0
Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0C:29:33:79:80
inet addr :192.168.172.128 Bcast: 192.168.172.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

TX packets: 32 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0

From what I have presented I see no errors and I simply do not understand why the browser will not connect to the SAGE server. I have used Firefox and IE8. I am at a point where I don’t know what else to do. I have uninstalled and reinstalled but no change.

I sure could use some help getting SAGE operational again

Are you connecting to the correct port?

When I launched either browser, I first connected to 192.168.172.128 as was indicated in the VM window. After your comment, I tried again with 192.168.172.128:8000 with no success.

I might be totally wrong, but I had a similar issue with the sage virtual machine resently. There is even a discussion about it somewhere in the google groups, but for me worked the following:

After you run the virtual machine for the first time you are asked if "you moved the machine or copied it". You are advised if you are not sure to choose "I copied it", but then you get problems with the connection. So try to reset the VM and choose "I moved it".

I had recently build a test version of a small vm image of a binary version of sage with just 407 MB download size. I have got no feedback so far, but I would be very happy if someone could help me to test it, at least a bit :). Link is: [http://sage.math.washington.edu/home/...]

When I first tried I launched either browser to 192.168.172.128 as was indicated in the VM window with no success. After your comment, I tried again with both browsers attempting to connect with 192.168.172.128:8000 with no success.

The only thing I can think of that has changed with the system since I first used SAGE is that I put a router between the client and the satellite modem. I didn’t think this would matter because I am trying to connect to the local VM machine. Is this not the case? Is there anything else I should consider?
