Howdy all,

I downloaded sage-4.5.3-linux-64bit-ubuntu_10.04.1_lts-x86_64-Linux.tar.lzma from Xmission, Utah

Byte file size == 359368232

and after a bit of time and many many module extractions during decompression, etc,. got the following bad news:

...

sage-4.5.3-...[snip].../local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/.../sparsetools/_csr.so

xz: (stdin): Read error: Input/output error

tar: Unexpected EOF in archive

tar: Unexpected EOF in archive

tar: Error is not recoverable...

Suggestions? I really would like to get this downloadable on my Xubuntu 64 system... -Bill.

Well, Mr. Md5sum decided to go home early, declaring an error, when I invoked it on the downloaded file. (thanks for the suggestion, ccanonc, anyway!)

However, you got me to thinking that maybe this will require a bit more delicacy. So, I tried downloading again, but this time using a download manager, and voilà -- the Md5sum checked[!]

So, I am a happy camper!

Sounds like your hard disk may have badblocks.
