Sage on CD for Mac

I'm giving a session at the Louisiana Association of Teachers of Mathematics conference on using Sage in the high school classroom. Participants will bring laptops, probably a mix of Windows and Mac. There may not be WiFi in the conference center, so as a backup plan I want to have a stack of CD's to hand out, containing Sage, my Sage demonstration workbook, and whatever else needed to make it work.

The SageLive CD will work fine for the Windows people. My difficulty is that I don't know anything about Macs. Is there a foolproof way to put Sage on a CD such that a casual Mac user (a high school math teacher attending the workshop) could get it running?

Suggestions of other approaches?

This sounds great! Can you post to http://groups.google.com/group/sage-edu about how it went, and how we can serve the HS community better? See http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/7489 for something that would really help with this...

I don't know about Macs, but there is a precompiled binary for OS X on the sage download server. Since the sage package is self contained it could be sufficent to load it on one (or more) usb stick(s) and let everybody with a Mac copy it on his or her computer.

Since I made the SageLive CD I would be happy how the presentation goes with the windows folks (Maybe you consider also to run it from USB, or even to use the windows exe installer for dual boot)

Emil: The SageLive CD vaguely worked with the Mac. Like running a Mac from the BCCD, though, the touchpad doesn't work. Jennifer Houchins at Shodor told me they bring mice to use with Macs with BCCD, but I didn't have a nest of mice to take. I did take CD's with the OS X version of Sage and my .sws file. I had a difficulty preparing the SageLive CD for PC's, though. What I wanted was a CD that would boot with both the Sage program and the Sage tutorial worksheet I was planning to present. I could create worksheets in SageLive, but was unsuccessful at Uploading from a USB drive. I clicked Upload, found the USB drive, and found the file, but when I clicked on it, the program froze. Turns out that the conference center had WiFi, so I didn't need the CD's.

Hello Brad, thanks for your feedback, also on the sage-support list. Sorry for my late reply, I am an infrequent visitor here. For the problem of the inclusion of worksheets in the CD I can image 2 different solutions. First solution is to make a "multisession" Live CD with a really small 10 MB savefile (not tested) and the second is to remaster the live CD (I have written a short HowTo on it, its on the html help pages of the Live CD). The problem with usb is new to me. Was it a new USB 3.0 device?

Download the mac "app" version and have them open the dmg and just drag the sage icon into their applications folder, just like they would normally install a mac app:
