Hello!

Are there any plans to make available a Sage pre-compiled binary package for Gnu/Linux Debian distribution?

Thank you for this great work.

With best regards, Antonio

Are you referring to the binaries available for download from one of the mirrors listed at here? We'd definitely like to distribute 32 and 64-bit binaries for recent versions of Debian and the other major Linux distributions. It's a matter of people in the Sage community having the interest and enough time to make binaries, or to set up and keep up-to-date virtual machines to which we can "farm out" the task. Unfortunately, at the moment, other tasks beckon.

This was done at one time, and in fact I think there was a (very old) version of Sage, around 3.0.5, in Debian; is it not in there now? You may want to see this group for a little recent discussion on why it's not (essentially, way too much work because of how Debian does things versus how Sage packages things); curiously, I can't find this group on the .com listings.
