Availability of 8.2 version for rpm-based Linux distros? -- SOLVED !!

Hello,

I'm a very happy Sage user. Currently running 8.1 on openSuse Tumbleweed, which I installed by downloading the Fediora binary. However, there is no current 8.2 binary Fedora version, and compiling from source is not currently an option for me. Is there a binary 8.2 version for rpm distros planned for the near future?

SOLVED: As suggested below, and although I thought I didn't have the time to build Sage 8.2 from source, I decided to give it a try. After approximately 30 min, the build process stopped with a segmentation fault while trying to build Python 2.7 (unfortunately, the log file is gone).

My next step was to try to install the binary for Ubunto 16.04. I can confirm that this is working on my openSuse install.

Regarding your bug, could you please try it again and find the log (together with the sequence of commends you entered, information about your OS, etc), such bug should definitely not happen, and should be tracked !

As you can see on the Sage buildbot, there was doctest failures on the two Fedora machines : http://build.sagemath.org/#/waterfall

One of them show a memory error ()i did not check the other but it is probably similar), so we have to wait that the maintainer of this machine fixes it.

By the way, note that building from source is actually pretty easy.

Also, a simple search led me to https://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/se... that shows some 8.2 builds.

Thanks for your prompt reply. Yes, I might consider sometime building from source, but unfortunately right now that's not an option, since I can't have full control of the machine for more than 2 hrs, and I seem to recall that a full build on a 2011 Core i7 will take longer than that.

I did try those rpm's pointed by rpmfind before my original post. Unfortunately, they didn't work on my Tumbleweed install. So I guess I'll just have to stick to my binary 8.1 install for Fedora.

If you repeatedly have control of the machine for two hours at a time, you could run make for a while, interrupt it with ctrl-C, then start again the next time, and you'd end up with Sage built from source.
