Some operations, such as symbolic integration, require the library 'libffi.so.6', which is not found. I have searched through the .tar without finding any 'libffi.*'. 1. Can this be fixed in the distro? 2. If not, where do I put this file in order to get a running system?

Resolved by installing libffi.so.6 through normal system installation method (YAST). Sage now runs correctly. Perhaps version 6 is standard on the current Fedora, but version 4 is standard on openSUSE, which I use.
Aha. I guess that is why we have to try to provide so many different Linux binaries; I wouldn't assume offhand that a Fedora binary would be guaranteed to work on any other distro without some messing around. Most likely you could have compiled Sage from scratch and it would have been happy with your system libffi.

Symbolic integration? Really? Is it a prereq for Maxima and/or Lisp? Edit: according to the libffi website, it's a prereq for Python!
