SageMath, VSCode and python.pythonPath

I'm currently attempting to integrate SageMath into my vscode setup. I've tried following the method set out in question 39742 (which I am unable to link as I am new to this forum) and followed it except for changing the version number from 8.1 to 8.8, as that is what is currently installed on my pc wherever it occurred in the cmd commands. However, when trying to select the python.exe in the sage-math bin as shown in the settings as an interpreter in vscode - not only does it not appear, but even manually setting it to be used using python.pythonPath does absolutely nothing.
