I am unable to find resolution of the http:/trac.sagemath.org/ticket/18293 error in the repositories. What is the present status of upgrading sage in this context?

I get the error reported in http:/trac.sagemath.org/ticket/18293 while upgrading in Ubuntu-14.04. I am forced to go back to version 6.2 as upgrading from 6.8,6.7,6.4 ended up with the libgd-2.1.1.p0 error and no usable sage.
