I'm trying to upload a zip file (containing only .sws files) to my local installation on Sage 5.0.1 on an iMac. However, Sage just won't accept it. Online sage servers will upload this same zip file with no problems. What am I doing wrong?
Based on comments with @benjaminfjones and some experimentation, I think the issue was one or two large notebooks in the zip file that were causing difficulty with the upload. One work around was addressed in a previous post:

Could be a permissions problem with your local install. What version of sage do you have installed locally? Is is a system-wide install or one in your home directory?
Thanks for your help. I've tried this with both Sage 5.0.1 and Sage 4.8. I've installed it in /Applications so it should be system-wide, although the download and decompression was done within my account.
Did you decompress the zip file (a folder full of .sws files should result from this) before trying to upload to the Sage notebook? You should be able to take the .zip file itself and upload it. It will be decompressed and unpacked on the server.
I've turned off the automatic decompression on my browser. Now, I can get small zip files to upload to the local version just fine. However, I've got one that it is around 18 MB and is taking forever to upload. This doesn't seem like how it should be. So, I'm going to try to figure out if there is one notebook that is causing the trouble.
I broke the list of notebooks down into smaller chunks and then was able to do the upload easily and quickly. Strange.
