I can't seem to highlight multiple cells to delete in a cluttered worksheet. I've tried click, hold-shift, click and also the up or down arrow with shift and no luck. I'm using Sage for Linux Mint.

If you are using Jupyter notebook, make sure you are in command mode by pressing ESC before trying SHIFT+up or down arrows to select cells. See tip #1 of 28 Jupyter Notebook tips, tricks and shortcuts.

If you do not know what is the command mode, then I suggest you do the "User Interface Tour" in the Help menu of the Jupyter notebook.

In the Sage notebook (sagenb) this is not possible directly in the GUI, but very easy if you click on "Edit" and then just remove all corresponding stuff, then do "save changes".
