I switched to jupyter notebook from sagenb to solve some problems (better direct file access and it handles the import print_function better, etc) But is there any difference in the function of Sage itself between the two notebooks?

No, there is no difference in the Sage functions between Jupyter and sagenb. Differences lie rather in "meta" functions, e.g. functions which control the appearance. For instance, for typeset outputs, you have to click on the "Typeset" button in the menu bar of sagenb, while you have to run %display latex in a cell of the Jupyter notebook.
