I was having a similar issue, and was able to solve it adding a Host-only adapter, I didn't have to turn off the firewall in the end.

After uninstalling, cleaning drivers and reinstalling the virtual machine, Adding a second network adapter with a host-only adapter solved the issue. I have tried this before, but I believe that I had some conflict with an old driver, I believe it was due to a previous installation of the Virtual machine, so I had to do a thorough clean up of drivers and old files (even after this the host-only adapter was required). Thank you Volker Dirk and Thaja for your help.

Let me correct this: It might be the network adapter in the VM , if I ctrl-c and then ifconfig, I only see the local loopback and no other adapters, I already reinstalled the VM and try to update the drivers, but no luck :( Any ideas? thanks to everyone.

Hello, thanks for the suggestions, I am running the browser in the host machine, I shut down Windows firewall but it didn't help, I'm getting a "The connection was reset" error message. The network connection to the vm seems to be OK as far as I can tell... any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I tried the instructions, but when I try to open http://localhost:8000 it just stays there thinking. The last message in the virtual machine is Starting factory twisted.web2.... I tried both virtual box (1.147) and vmplayer (4.0.0.471) with the sage-4.7.1.ova Thanks a lot for your help.
