2019-04-24 13:20:20 +0200 | asked a question | Persistent install problems I've tried using the repository of ubuntu 18.04 for an older version and failed, and now I've tried building 8.7 (the latest version) from source as seems to be the advised way. Also failed. As a completely new user I'm in no position to deal with this problem: |
2019-04-24 13:20:20 +0200 | asked a question | Persistent install problems Especially as a new user following install instructions for 8.7 exactly and getting nowhere, I am in no position to hack this install process: whether through Ubuntu (18.04) package installer or via 'make' (ie repository or source), every time I get errors - it's clear something is flawed with the instructions and/or the install process, but the long timescales and huge log files also mean I can't experiment or tweak things myself. I really am just lost on this one. Here's part of the log: Error building Sage. The following package(s) may have failed to build (not necessarily during this run of 'make all-build'): The build directory may contain configuration files and other potentially helpful information. WARNING: if you now run 'make' again, the build directory will, by default, be deleted. Set the environment variable SAGE_KEEP_BUILT_SPKGS to 'yes' to prevent this.
