How would one define an elliptic curve of over the algebraic closure of a field which is not a finite field or a number field? A problem I had was defining the elliptic curve over the algebraic closure of this field and I found that algebraic_closure() wasn't a valid option for the field that I tried to use. Thank you!

The only algebraically closed fields implemented in Sage are QQbar and CC. Before thinking about defining elliptic curves over a field one would have to implement the field! Useful candidates would be the algebraic closures of Fp and of Qp.

Algebraic closures of finite fields should be coming soon, see Trac ticket #14990.
