I was just wondering if this can be run from an iPod or iPhone natively.

No, it is definitely not possible to install Sage directly natively on any iOS devices.

However, one can always access www.sagenb.org from any iOS device and use Sage from there.

I was about to ask the same question before I came here. Actually, there is an Sage Math app available in ios app store. Besides, there is an very new iPython notebook app in ios app store called Computable. The app called Computable is really impressive. I think it might be possible to make an ios app for SAGE now.
