You have to have a certain number of points to comment on general answers. At a lower threshold (maybe just one point) you can comment on your own answers, and answers to questions you have posted (like this one). Does anyone have a link for the default list of point values needed to do certain things?

Funny. Now I can see a "post a comment" link to my answers, but not to other answers, like http://ask.sagemath.org/question/17/use-a-colormap-for-implicit_plot3d#43

I've just lowered the minimum reputation to comment to 1 point. @William Stein as the site manager should really decide what the reputation requirements should be and, but I think that for a small site very high limits are unwarranted. The defaults are the same as in stackoverflow.

if reputation is less than minimum reputation to comment, then user can comment own posts and answers to own questions. With the lower threshold you should be able to comment anywhere.
