What features should we add to this site?

asked 2010-08-19 02:18:20 +0200

As a companion to the "what's broken" question, what features should we add here?

As a start, it would be nice if there was some mechanism for auto-linking trac ticket numbers. Other auto-link ideas:

Auto-linking of links would be convenient. (That is, if I type "http://www.sagemath.org" then it should show up automatically as a link.) Also, is there a way of linking searches on this site to sage-support so results would show from both? That would reduce the number of duplicate questions.

When the red envelope icon indicates I have new messages/comments, and I click on it (navigate to that page); if I then click on a message, the page it takes me to does not auto-scroll to where that new comment/update actually is. It would be awesome if you had html anchors that allowed you to auto-scroll (and permalink for that matter). Whether implemented in ECMAScript/Javascript or in the GET request (URL), hey whatever scrolls me there would rule.

it actually does autoscroll, but does not work yet when the answer or comment is not on the first page... I've noticed this issue too.

I think William had already mentioned this, but adding support for jsMath / MathJax would be great.

edit (by evgeny): this page has instructions on enabling MathJax http://askbot.org/doc/mathjax.html, please take a look if you want to use math rendering on this site.

Yes, MathJax is the way of the future: http://www.mathjax.org/ (it's the successor to jsmath, written by the jsmath author)

Evgeny: Can we currently subscript or superscript anything? Just curious before the math markup gets added.

This feature can be enabled on this site - here is the manual: http://askbot.org/doc/mathjax.html
