After sage -upgrade I wanted to open sage and it crashed.
(I had already sage installed on Ubuntu 16.04) I have a Crash report that I can send if necessary.
Please help. All what I wanted to do was to have the latest version in order to install Curver and do some calculations on mapping classes.
Since it seems you are running Ubuntu 16.04, I would advise to install the latest version (8.9) from scratch by downloading the binary tar ball from https://www.sagemath.org/download-lin....
After having downloaded the tar.bz2 file in your home directory, it suffices to run
bunzip2 sage-8.9-Ubuntu_16.04-x86_64.tar.bz2
tar xvf sage-8.9-Ubuntu_16.04-x86_64.tar
cd SageMath
./sage -n jupyter
