Multiplicative Group of a field

I have a finite field with me. I want to work with a multiplicative group of it. I only found that it is possible to do this with Z modulo n in Sage. But my fields are finite extensions of such a field.

If someone has a way to deal with, please help!

The method .unit_group() is indeed missing for non-prime finite fields.

Implementing it is the object of

and that ticket even has a patch with an implementation,

which one can download and apply to one's installation of Sage.

The ticket has been stalled, but hopefully can be revived.

There is now a git branch on the ticket that you can pull on top of the latest develop release of sage.
