How can the Notebook in Windows be customized (using localhost:8000 with Sage on VirtualBox) - e.g. with other css, other browser fuctionalities etc.?

For css, you have to log into the virtual machine and add a file notebook.css as mentioned in notebook description. If it is just for one worksheet you can edit it directly with a css preamble (not very safe).

The sage notebook is deprecated. Its successor is Jupyter which supports customization as well.
