I have a student running Mac OS X 10.5.8. Where can we find a binary to download? The oldest versions at the mirror sites linked from sagemath.org under Downloads are for OS X 10.6.
I still have a PPC machine with OSX 10.5.8 sitting in a box, and perhaps it can be used to build the "universal" Sage distribution, i.e. the one that will run on PPC and on Inter. Although I have never done such a "universal", a.k.a. "fat" Sage version. Also, IIRC, OSX 10.6 can be used to build executables for 10.5 (but I don't have 10.6 anywhere anymore).
You won't like this answer, but just for completeness for when others come: it should still be possible (though annoying) to get Xcode for that computer from Apple's website (after lots of hoops, trust me) and compile Sage from scratch.
Yeah---you know me well :). Student isn't very computer-savvy, I think, so we can't compile on student's machine; and so the problem is really that my computer that (I think still has) a X.5 version of Sage on it is in a different state so I can't copy that binary.

I think the key question is whether this is an Intel or PPC chip, though. Otherwise we can't even build a binary on request if we don't know that...
It's Intel.
We do have a volunteer to do that but it will have to wait a bit over a week (see https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/sage-devel/w_Asu9Phd6c). I'm sorry I don't have access to such an old machine running Intel - most people running on Intel chips upgraded at least to 10.6.
Hmmm. In a week or so the student may no longer need access to Sage. We'll see. (BTW, the link to the google group doesn't work---it just goes to the top level of groups.google. I think that's a google thing, not anything to do with your link.)
