Because I don't want to keep a terminal emulator like gnome terminal or x-term open,I just want to run sage in the background with log recorded in some files (say, $HOME/.local/sage/log/notebook.log). sagetex fails with 'no file filename.sout' and
'no file filename.aux'. I tried to hide the sagetex.sty
from texlive and put the one from sage into the
directory with the .tex file, as I've seen as a remedy
for this, but it did not help.

I'm working with sage 4.7.2 on a virtual machine on windows 7. I have some more lines of code where I read some data tables and try to fit them with find_fit and than calculate confidence intervals. Suddenly I get and error of the following kind:

Unhandled SIGSEGV: A segmentation fault occurred in Sage.
This probably occurred because a *compiled* component of Sage has a bug
in it and is not properly wrapped with sig_on(), sig_off(). You might
want to run Sage under gdb with 'sage -gdb' to debug this.
Sage will now terminate.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I found some a trac ticket concerning this but it does not help me. Also I do not know how to use the debugging command with the VM to give you further information or where to but the notebook and the data file so everyone could have a further look if wanted.
Do not hesitate to ask for additional information.

Can someone here help me? Thanks a lot.

Well, I downloaded the ImageMagick-6.7.6-1.i386.rpm (the download at the top of the list on
http://www.imagemagick.org/script/binary-releases.php
into a sage folder. Then I ran sage and killed the notebook. then I became an su with password sage
then I cd'd to the sage folder and followed the instructions rmp -Uvh Image....etc
Got error indicating 6 library files that couldn't be found. After playing around a bit more, I gave up.
Any suggestions? Thankscarl.eberhartMon, 19 Mar 2012 09:03:25 -0500http://ask.sagemath.org/question/8803/Bug in Graph.girth in 4.7.2 ?http://ask.sagemath.org/question/8076/bug-in-graphgirth-in-472/sage 4.7.2 incorrectly gives girth of 4 on this graph:

Hi,
I've just installed sage 4.7.2 on a laptop running snow leopard. I put the sage folder inside Applications folder, and inside sage I see the executable icon for sage. When I double click on it everything works fine, but when I wanted to put the executable sage on the dock I could not do it. I guess one can only put .app files on there. I'd would like to have sage there so I don't have to go Applications->sage->sage every single time I want to use it.
Thanks, NaiveUserWed, 16 Nov 2011 13:00:10 -0600http://ask.sagemath.org/question/8483/sagetex after upgrade to sage 4.7.2http://ask.sagemath.org/question/8445/sagetex-after-upgrade-to-sage-472/Dear sage support group,
Let me start by thanking you for the recent advice which made it possible to use SageTeX with sage 4.7.1. I am so happy that I can use that.
However, after I upgraded to the new version of sage, sage 4.7.2, I can't get SageTeX to work again. I can't figure out what's wrong, and would greatly appreciate any help you might be able to give.
Here is what I did after installing sage 4.7.2 (app-version under Mac OS 10.6.8). The analogous setup worked for sage 4.7.1:
I copied the new version of the sagetex.sty-file coming with sage 4.7.2 to the folder ~/Library/texmf/tex/generic/sagetex/ and updated the call of sage in the sage.engine of TeXShop (the path to the application is correct, because it will start sage in a Terminal session).
With the new setup, according to the log file of TeXShop, sage is called when running the sage.engine of TeXShop, but still none of the output sage should produce for the example.tex-file provided is shown. Instead there are question marks. As might be expected one gets also lots of LaTeX warnings about undefined references.
What could be the problem?

Following the suggestions given, I installed Oracle's VMVirtualbox ok and Sage 4.7. I installed the binary and did not attempt to use the source. After starting, the programme simply refuses to give me a Notebook and says incomprehensible(to me!) error messages about opening my web browser at localhost:0000 etc. I was able to go to the Sage directory and look at some of the files there but the instructions in the README.txt on the download web page simply does not correspond to reality. Any advice would be appreciated!ThajaMon, 15 Aug 2011 04:39:18 -0500http://ask.sagemath.org/question/8274/Cannot insert cells in Sage 4.7 with ubuntu 11.04http://ask.sagemath.org/question/8321/cannot-insert-cells-in-sage-47-with-ubuntu-1104/Hi,
We recently found that our SAGE 4.7 in Ubuntu 11.04 has the following problem with the notebook. We use firefox 6 and everything works fine except that we cannot insert cells, even if the blue line apperas. If we press ALT+ENTER, then we can evaluate the input and produce a new cell, but we would like to be able to insert cells as usual.
Thanks in advance,
