Can I change this?http://ask.sagemath.org/question/34346/worksheets-are-always-saved-in-downloads-in-linux-can-i-change-this/ I'd like to keep worksheets in different directories and then point Sage to whatever one I'm working with. Is there a way to do this?Fri, 05 Aug 2016 14:32:36 -0500http://ask.sagemath.org/question/34346/worksheets-are-always-saved-in-downloads-in-linux-can-i-change-this/Comment by slelievre for
I'd like to keep worksheets in different directories and then point Sage to whatever one I'm working with. Are you downloading Sage Notebook worksheets as .sws files? What browser are you using?Tue, 09 Aug 2016 14:23:20 -0500http://ask.sagemath.org/question/34346/worksheets-are-always-saved-in-downloads-in-linux-can-i-change-this/?comment=34388#post-id-34388Answer by slelievre for
I'd like to keep worksheets in different directories and then point Sage to whatever one I'm working with. http://ask.sagemath.org/question/34346/worksheets-are-always-saved-in-downloads-in-linux-can-i-change-this/?answer=34387#post-id-34387I suppose you are using the Sage Notebook and not the Jupyter notebook,
and you are downloading a Sage Notebook worksheeet as a .sws file.
This downloads the file to the default place where all your downloads go.
You can set a preference in your browser for where to download stuff by
default. You can also set a preference to ask you each time.Tue, 09 Aug 2016 14:22:16 -0500http://ask.sagemath.org/question/34346/worksheets-are-always-saved-in-downloads-in-linux-can-i-change-this/?answer=34387#post-id-34387Comment by ciric50 for
I suppose you are using the Sage Notebook and not the Jupyter notebook,

Thanks!Tue, 09 Aug 2016 15:08:31 -0500http://ask.sagemath.org/question/34346/worksheets-are-always-saved-in-downloads-in-linux-can-i-change-this/?comment=34391#post-id-34391Answer by kcrisman for
I'd like to keep worksheets in different directories and then point Sage to whatever one I'm working with. http://ask.sagemath.org/question/34346/worksheets-are-always-saved-in-downloads-in-linux-can-i-change-this/?answer=34353#post-id-34353If you are using the sagenb Sage notebook, you can change the environment variable `DOT_SAGE` or even `DOT_SAGENB`; see [this question](http://ask.sagemath.org/question/9899/change-home-directory/).
The download functionality is completely separate from the storage. Notebooks are numbered, and live in a directory like `.sage/sage_notebook.sagenb/home/admin/` (depending on your `DOT_SAGE` or `DOT_SAGENB`), listed by the number. Downloads will just go to whatever download directory your system prescribes, I guess.Sat, 06 Aug 2016 08:07:09 -0500http://ask.sagemath.org/question/34346/worksheets-are-always-saved-in-downloads-in-linux-can-i-change-this/?answer=34353#post-id-34353Comment by ciric50 for
If you are using the sagenb Sage notebook, you can change the environment variable
DOT_SAGE
or even
DOT_SAGENB
; see this question.

http://ask.sagemath.org/question/34346/worksheets-are-always-saved-in-downloads-in-linux-can-i-change-this/?comment=34381#post-id-34381Thanks. I tried setting DOT_SAGENB to a directory and restarted sage. In the sage notebook interface I named my notebook "raspberry" and saved it. When I look in that directory I see a new directory called sage_notebook.sagenb, but there is no file called "raspberry" anywhere in it or its subdirectories. If I do a download of the notebook and save to a file called "raspberry", I do see a new file called "raspberry.sws" but it is still in the ~/Downloads directory.
When notebooks are saved are they in a separate file with the same name as the notebook name? I searched for a file like that in numerous places and have never found one. Even with downloads I can't seem to get them to go where I want.Tue, 09 Aug 2016 07:07:24 -0500http://ask.sagemath.org/question/34346/worksheets-are-always-saved-in-downloads-in-linux-can-i-change-this/?comment=34381#post-id-34381
