However, after restarting my worksheet becomes unusable. Either it hangs on a simple instruction (like "2+2"), or doesn't hang, but produces no output. I'm using Firefox in Linux (Ubuntu 12.04), and Sage 5.11. I'm not quite sure what to do here, aside from shutting everything down (the notebook, and Sage) and then restarting. And is there a way of opening up a saved worksheet and not automatically evaluating all the cells?Tue, 04 Feb 2014 22:47:54 -0600http://ask.sagemath.org/question/10992/issue-with-the-notebook-wont-display-output/Comment by Alasdair for
I am dealing with a worksheet which every now and then I have to interrupt or restart. http://ask.sagemath.org/question/10992/issue-with-the-notebook-wont-display-output/?comment=16324#post-id-16324I discovered that the problem (at least partly) is MathJax - I can obtain un-typeset output after a restart, but not typeset output. It looks as though MathJax needs to be somehow restarted - and this I don't know how to do.Wed, 05 Feb 2014 13:04:52 -0600http://ask.sagemath.org/question/10992/issue-with-the-notebook-wont-display-output/?comment=16324#post-id-16324Comment by Alasdair for
I am dealing with a worksheet which every now and then I have to interrupt or restart. http://ask.sagemath.org/question/10992/issue-with-the-notebook-wont-display-output/?comment=16322#post-id-16322Well, I've only noticed it in one particular worksheet. I sometimes (in error) have it output the results, which can be very long indeed.Wed, 05 Feb 2014 14:27:10 -0600http://ask.sagemath.org/question/10992/issue-with-the-notebook-wont-display-output/?comment=16322#post-id-16322Comment by kcrisman for
I am dealing with a worksheet which every now and then I have to interrupt or restart. http://ask.sagemath.org/question/10992/issue-with-the-notebook-wont-display-output/?comment=16323#post-id-16323But it's only this one particular worksheet, correct?Wed, 05 Feb 2014 13:07:33 -0600http://ask.sagemath.org/question/10992/issue-with-the-notebook-wont-display-output/?comment=16323#post-id-16323Comment by kcrisman for
I am dealing with a worksheet which every now and then I have to interrupt or restart. http://ask.sagemath.org/question/10992/issue-with-the-notebook-wont-display-output/?comment=16320#post-id-16320I think this is something worth debugging on this worksheet, then. In fact, my advice is below as an answer.Thu, 06 Feb 2014 02:12:21 -0600http://ask.sagemath.org/question/10992/issue-with-the-notebook-wont-display-output/?comment=16320#post-id-16320Comment by kcrisman for
I am dealing with a worksheet which every now and then I have to interrupt or restart. http://ask.sagemath.org/question/10992/issue-with-the-notebook-wont-display-output/?comment=16326#post-id-16326Typically, opening up an existing worksheet shouldn't evaluate *any* cells, unless you have `%auto` in some of them. That said, it sounds to me like there is something hidden in this worksheet that is causing the trouble - have you looked at the raw code version? Sometimes extra stuff gets in there if you got a worksheet from someone else.Wed, 05 Feb 2014 08:00:44 -0600http://ask.sagemath.org/question/10992/issue-with-the-notebook-wont-display-output/?comment=16326#post-id-16326Answer by kcrisman for
I am dealing with a worksheet which every now and then I have to interrupt or restart. http://ask.sagemath.org/question/10992/issue-with-the-notebook-wont-display-output/?answer=15991#post-id-15991This may not work. But here is what I recommend.
1. Open the worksheet.
1. Click "Edit".
1. Copy this raw text out.
1. Close the worksheet.
1. Open a new worksheet.
1. Click "Edit".
1. Paste the raw text in the new one.
1. Hope that whatever strange metacharacters or something caused it are now gone!
Good luck.Thu, 06 Feb 2014 02:14:39 -0600http://ask.sagemath.org/question/10992/issue-with-the-notebook-wont-display-output/?answer=15991#post-id-15991
