I As a GNU/Linux user, i did not try with the virtualbox, however, i frequently do some computations that last about one week (up to 4 months actually), so the general answer is 'yes'.'yes' (more precisely i use the sage command line and run the computations on a allways-on remote computer via ssh (and screen)).
