As to the Sage servers, yes, it is possible that you launched two Sage servers and that was the problem. (You can open a Terminal and check for Python processes and kill them when in doubt.)

But this should not affect the terminal session. If you can reliably replicate that it would be very helpful. I personally often have several sessions running in this way.

Finally, as the downloads page says (or should say and did until recently, at least), you can use an older Sage for a newer Mac, but it's unwise to try vice versa. There probably isn't a version for 10.9 currently for download, though you shouldn't have any problem building it from scratch.
