the ova is built using data from https://bitbucket.org/vbraun/sage-virtual-appliance-buildscript/src in particular, the repo https://bitbucket.org/vbraun/sage-virtual-appliance-buildscript/src/ has file configuration/sage-xinitrc that contains the command starting Sage.

So it most probably becomes .xinitrc in the home directory of the ova Linux user running Sage.
