Different computation results on Mac OS and Linux

Hi everyone,

I am experiencing the following behaviour, which I have not been able to explain as of now. I am running the same Sage code (computing in the E8 root system) on my laptop and on the cluster and get different results. For theoretical reasons it is clear that the results obtained on the cluster are false.

My laptop is running MacOS Catalina and on the cluster it is Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS. Both are running SageMath version 9.0, Release Date: 2020-01-01.

Perhaps it is important to add that the code is running very slow on both systems. The computations are in the E8 root system and are quite big. On my laptop the computation is happy with the available 8Gb ram. At the same time on the cluster it is taking up to 100Gb and then eventually fails anyway. The results computed before the failure, which are just some integer numbers, are different from the ones obtained on MacOS and are clearly wrong.

I'd be very grateful for any advice on this!

Maxim

Please provide a minimal example of a computation that gives different results on these two systems.
