I'm running Fedora 29 and I installed SageMath from dnf as: sudo dnf install sagemath.
When I run sage $ sage I get this error:
$ sage
/usr/lib64/sagemath/local/bin/sage: line 601: unexpected EOF while looking for matching `)'
/usr/lib64/sagemath/local/bin/sage: line 661: syntax error: unexpected end of file
Fedora user here ! I just would like to report that on Fedora 31, Sage is working nicely. I just downloaded and unzipped the Ubuntu file "sage-8.9-Ubuntu_18.04-x86_64.tar.bz2".

I use Fedora since many years, and I remember that I once decided to avoid the SageMath packaged in the system, because of some problems. Instead, it is much more reliable to just download the binaries.
The only possible issue is which version of the binaries should be used. I currently use Fedora 29 with SageMath 7.6 but it is very likely that a more recent version works properly.

You will likely have to take that up with whoever packaged sage for your version of Fedora. It sounds like the Fedora package is broken, not Sage itself.
