Hello everyone,

Using Virtual Box 5.2.6 I've tried to install SageMath using sage-6.10.ova file. However I faced the following problem :image description

If the image doesn't display here is the error I got: Failed to import virtual machine C:\Documents and Settings\Nicolas\My Documents\Downloads\sage-6.10.ova.

Could not create the imported medium 'C:\Documents and Settings\Nicolas\VirtualBox VMs\Sage-6.10\sage-6.10-disk1.vmdk'.

VMDK: cannot write allocated data block in 'C:\Documents and Settings\Nicolas\VirtualBox VMs\Sage-6.10\sage-6.10-disk1.vmdk' (VERR_DISK_FULL).

Error code : VBOX_E_FILE_ERROR (0x80BB0004) Component : ApplianceWrap Interface : IAppliance {8398f026-4add-4474-5bc3-2f9f2140b23e}

Why install the two-year-old Sage 6.10, instead of the one-month-old SageMath 8.1?

Note that support by Microsoft of Windows XP stopped in April 2014.

See https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/WindowsForBusiness/end-of-xp-support.

You might want to use a more recent, and supported, operating system.

You might also try Sage Debian Live, the bootable usb drive running Debian and shipping Sage (with many optional packages), along with many other free software applications and programs.

See https://sagedebianlive.metelu.net/.

Anyone still using XP probably has a very good reason to do so, so please stop being pedantic.

The error message includes VERR_DISK_FULL which might indicate that the disk is full.

VERR_DISK_FULL gives the hint, the virtually allocated space is fully allocated. Topic is often encountered, e.g. VERR_DISK_FULL post on virtualbox.org

Personal note:

The simplest solution is to use (on some cheap, then very soon on some expensive hard drive) a linux installation (ubuntu or manjaro - my preferences), then a true sagemath install.
