Sorry, I'm re-asking this question as there are not yet any responses....Notebook was working just fine. Then suddenly, it stopped working and nothing I try helps. You can type or copy and paste into the cell, but it remains as a box only one line high. Cell doesn't have heavy blue line around it; there is no "evaluate" button and shift-return doesn't run it. I tried killing Sagemath from the terminal by killing the PID, and restarting from the terminal; I tried clearing the Firefox cache; repairing disk permissions; restarting mac. Nothing works !!! HELP please !!!

You question would probably have a better chance of getting an answer if

  • posted on sage-support, and

  • telling, at the very minimum, what version of sage you try to run, on which platform, and how you installed it.

As asked, your question is an exercise in pure divination. I'm still running _H. sapiens sapiens L._ V 1.0, so I can't give you any hint for now...

Notebook is not a good place to search for run time errors, at least not for me. Try to run the same code in the sage command line first, possibly inserting prints at points that may hurt or not execute in time. Best, use an IDE like eclipse or pycharm, this pays a profit in the long run (e.g. both in mathematical future research, and in a pure programming job). People can not help from the description given above. Personally, i never have used the notebook, this is my problem, but there is a reason for this: when the structure gets complicated (in both maths and sage), then there is no chance to have a full control of the situation even only in the interpreter. Adding the cell+browser tunnel makes things even more complicated. My guess is, some long computation cannot be executed.

In answer to the first comment: I have SAGE 7.2 installed on my mac with OSX 10.10.5. It opens in the Firefox browser. To install it I downloaded the Mac OSX binaries fior which it says
Download Mac OS X binaries "These binaries are only for OS X 10.4 - 10.10. " from this page: http://www.sagemath.org/download.html
