I have windows 7. I download sage 5.7, but when I have to import to virtualbox doesn't work and only respond "error importando servicio virtualizado"; so i have to work with a previous version sage 4.72 Now i'm downloading sage 5.8 and i hope it works; if I have success importing sage to virtualbox, what should i do? Delete sage 4.72 and then install sage 5.8? What happens with all my worksheets?

Thanks!

I download sage 5.8 but I can't import to virtualbox... I don't know what happens and I don't believe that the problem is in virtuabox becouse I could install sage 4.72. So what is the problem?, Do I have to change something in the package that I download to make it useful in virtualbox?, somebody help me please

  1. You should download the sage-5.8.ova file from one of the mirrors in http://sagemath.org/download-windows....
  2. After that import the ova file into virtualbox by using the method outlined in http://wiki.sagemath.org/SageApplianc...

This should get your sage installation up and running. For more information on how to work with the virtualbox installation, look up this page: http://wiki.sagemath.org/SageAppliance

To migrate your worksheets from sage-4.7 to sage-5.8

  1. Create a shared folder between your sage-4.7 in virtualbox and your Windows.
  2. download all your worksheets after starting sage-4.7 (you can select "Download all active" from the Home page) and save them in that shared folder. It will be in zip format.
  3. If you have archived worksheets, then you need to download them too.
  4. In virtualbox set up the same shared folder between sage-5.8 and your windows.
  5. Start sage-5.8 and upload the worksheets by selecting "Upload" from the Home window and then select that zip file that you downloaded earlier.
  6. Ensure that all the worksheets you need have been transfered. After you are convinced that you have done everything correctly, you can go ahead and delete the sage-4.7 installation.

I do all the steps for download, in fact that's the way I install sage 4.72 ( i had this version for a previous download one year ago and I could import to virtualbox). But now, I download sage 5.7 and 5.8 from metalink, and both fail when I try to import to virtualbox. I think that maybe the problem is in the download....

First try to run md5sum on the downloaded file, as: $ md5sum sage-5.8.ova and compare it against the entry corresponding to sage-5.8.ova in http://boxen.math.washington.edu/home/sagemath/sage-mirror/win/md5sums.txt You can confirm by this whether the download via the metalink is completing correctly. Alternatively, you can also try to select a specific mirror and download it, instead of using the metalink.

Thanks for yor answer, i download fastsum and follow your steps, but I don't know how to run on md5sum as "$ md5sum sage-5.8.ova". I run on fastsum the file sage5.8 that I have and the answer is "C8942480E5738CF7C6E158AB2A0C420B *sage-5.8.ova"

Ok. Your md5sum doesn't match with the one in the URL I mentioned above. This means your downloaded file is either corrupted or it didn't download completely. Try downloading it from some specific mirror instead of using the metalink.

Effectively, I download by torrent and now I can import to virtualbox. Thanks a lot :D
