Sage 5.9 should compile natively on Windows (with Cygwin), but I am still having problems, even with rebasing (http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/wi...). Are there any plans to provide binaries for Windows+Cygwin? Is there a technical reason why the download page recommends using the virtual machine instead (which I suppose is slower, isn't it?)?

Sage for cygwin is not officially out, there are some binaries here, but nobody claims it actually works, so use at your own risks.
That said, if you want to run Sage in a faster way than with virtualbox, you can use the Puppy Live CD (running Sage 5.3) or burn a Sage Debian Live USB key (running Sage 5.9).

Thanks a lot for these binaries! They work amazingly well. I also ran the Benchmarks described on http://www.sagemath.org/tour-benchmarks.html . Result: Mathematica 9 wins in 7 of 10 tests, most of them rather clearly. So I suppose there is some room for improvement for the windows port.

By the way, we'd love to hear what your problems are (beyond rebasing) at [Trac 6743](http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/6743), which though closed has not been "officially" merged in Sage yet. It's conceivable there is something which was missed.
